Last week I wrote about an epic deal on the Asus Chromebook Plus CX34 but this Monday, it looks like the offer is now even better than before.
For quite a while now, I’ve been recommending to friends and family that if they want a laptop that operates well for simple tasks like shopping, web browsing, typical work tasks and studying, then Chromebooks are the way to go for their speed and affordability. Of the back of that, I happened to spot last week that the excellent Asus Chromebook Plus CX34 was down to only £279.99.
As luck would have it, Amazon – for whatever reason – has decided to increase the discount, now letting you get that same CX34 Chromebook for only £249.99. That’s now a massive 38% drop on the original £399.99 price point.

As I mentioned last week, the only time where I would recommend something more powerful is if your workload or your university course includes more heavy-duty tasks that require a more robust processor, like video/photo editing, animation or 3D modelling. For everyone else though, Chromebooks should be your point of call.
Until last year, I had conducted most of my work on Windows laptops but ended up shifting over to a Chromebook almost full time because of how fast it was when it came to tasks that I could carry out within the Chrome browser. For instance, when it comes to simple photo editing in Canva, writing in Google Docs or handling a database in Google Sheets, Chromebooks work brilliantly.
This particular model scored a high 4.5–star rating in our review, with the verdict noting: “the Chromebook Plus CX34 offers a good port selection, with sensible placement, as well as an excellent keyboard with great white backlighting. Its trackpad is also of a decent size, while the display on offer is good enough for day-to-day workloads with reasonable brightness and detail. The battery life on offer is also excellent.”

The value proposition has only gotten better since that review as Gemini (Google’s AI model) is now built into every Chromebook Plus, so if you need to brainstorm a few ideas about any task at hand, you now have an easy way of doing so, right on your device.
There’s plenty more to say about the CX34 but when it’s available for just £249.99, I’d be very surprised if anyone could find a better value laptop for the price right now.
