If you think your social media posts are the best thing since sliced bread, you’re going to need to know how to make a post shareable on Facebook. If you’re getting zero shares and you’ve got friends who love your stuff, then chances are you’ve restricted who can see them.
There’s one tool responsible for ensuring your Facebook posts reach the right people and that is the audience selector. The audience selector controls who can see your statuses, photos, and videos both before and after you post them, as well as some of the information found on your profile you might want to keep private, such as your email address.
You can use the audience selector to choose who can see and share individual posts on your phone, tablet or laptop, but be aware that you won’t be able to change the settings of anyone else’s posts – just your own.
Here’s everything you need to know about making a post shareable on Facebook.
What you’ll need:
- A Facebook account
- A post to share
The Short Version
- Find your post
- Click the three dots
- Click Edit Audience
- Click Public
How to make a post shareable on Facebook
Step 1.
Open Facebook
The following screenshots are from the browser version of Facebook, but you can also do this in the Android and iOS apps.
Step 2.
Find the post you want to share
If it isn’t on your home feed, you can head to your profile and follow these steps from there.
Step 3.
Click the three dots on the corner of the post
This will bring up a drop-down menu.
Step 4.
Select Edit Audience
The icon looks like a cog
Step 5.
Select the ‘Public’ option
That’s it – now your posts can be discovered far and wide by the general public on Facebook. You also select other audience settings, like Friends, Friends Except, Specific Friends and Only Me.
To make sure your posts are public before posting, open the Create Post window and click on the grey drop-down below your name – it’s usually set to Friends. Here you can select your audience before posting.
In order to make your posts private on Facebook, just follow the steps above but select ‘Only Me’ instead of ‘Public’.
If you’re trying to share someone else’s Facebook post and you can’t, it’s because the original post has not been set to ‘Public’. If you think this is a mistake, you can reach out to the original poster and ask them to change the audience settings.
These are all different audience settings on Facebook. Public allows everyone to see and share the post, Friends allows only people in your network to see and share it, Friends Except is the same thing but with specific named exceptions, Only Me is basically the private setting, and Specific Friends allows only named friends to see and share your post.
